Wishing You a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!
Most of us are in the midst of the beautiful chaos of the holiday season! As we move into this special season, one of the busiest times of the year, it’s common to overcommit, overextend financially, physically and mentally, fall in to unhealthy habits and to be overstressed and exhausted. Who doesn’t love to eat, drink and be merry during this time of year? We should all enjoy the holidays while staying grounded, healthy and full of love, instead of full of anxiety. I wanted to share with you my top tips for staying sane during this most wonderful time of year!
- GET ORGANIZED. Keep your To-Do’s in order. Start your day by writing your top three MUST DO’S for the day. Then let everything else go. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
- GET YOUR Z’S. Try to get a minimum of 7-8 hours a sleep at night. Take a catnap during the day. The more rested you stay, the more energy you will have during your days.
- KEEP MOVING. Keep up with some sort of exercise or body movement. Even if you don’t have time for your regular hour long workouts or yoga practice, move your body for 10 minute spurts three times during the day. If that doesn’t work, commit to 10 minutes once per day of anything that gets your body moving (jumping jacks, Sun Salutations, handstands, walking, stairs, whatever!)
- TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Give yourself a little TLC to stay calm and present. Light a candle, rub some lavender on your feet before bedtime, take a bath, use a diffuser with some essential oils, read a good book or write in your favorite journal.
- DRINK A TON! Of water and green juice that is! Try to maintain your daily habit of green juice to keep the body full of nutrients but also to set the tone for healthy eating and drinking throughout the day. Also, since it is very easy to drink a little more than normal at all of the holiday functions, try to drink as much water during the day as you can. A minimum of eight, 8 oz glasses is ideal. Especially when eating a bit heavier or drinking a bit more vino, the more hydrated we stay the better we feel.
- EAT A LOT. Of greens. With all the heavy foods, try to load your plate with as many vegetables and greens as possible. This will fill us up more so that we eat less of the heavier, more sugary options!
- PRACTICE MINDFULNESS. Take a few minutes everyday to “Calm Your Mind.” Set aside at least two minutes a day to disconnect from everything—electronics, kids, work, To-Do’s and everything around you to close your eyes and breath. Call it a mini meditation, call it a time-out, call it a moment of peace; but this will help you stay calm and less anxious while keeping your mind clear and on track!
