It’s a New Year which makes it a great time to say goodbye to the old and embrace the new. Let go of what no longer serves you and open your mind to your deepest dreams and visions. Now is a great time sit down and think about your deepest desires for the new year!
In yoga, Sankalpa means intention. It is when we get crystal clear on our deepest desires and wishes. The more clear we are, the more we can do to support this and align with our hearts desire. What is it that you need to do to make these intentions become your reality this year? Get clear, write it down, say it out loud, envision it in your mind. Do what you need to do to see yourself manifesting these intentions. Clarity is power!
The Sankalpa mudra helps to cultivate a vision for your intentions. A mudra is a hand gesture or a sacred seal. It is a seal of energy that moves the flow of prana (breath or life force) through the body. It helps us cultivate an inner feeling or vision. I’ve heard it described like this, “Mudra is an outer expression of an inner longing” Douglas Brooks. Here is how you do Sankalpa mudra.
-Sit with the legs crossed in a comfortable position
-Place the back of the left hand on the right knee with the palm up
-Gently clasp the right hand with the left hand
Sit with this mudra any time you would like to set your intention and get clear on your deepest aspirations.
